When Knob Creek was first introduced to the market back in 1992 it was being distilled under the direction of master distiller Booker Noe, the grandson of Jim Beam. It now has Fred Noe, Booker’s son at the helm. Talk about a lineage! Our dram today is made pre-Prohibition-style and comes in soft, sweet, yet bold.
Though the Knob Creek label we know today began in 1992, it was first used back in 1898. It was owned at the time by a division of National Distillers which Jim Beam purchased and then resurrected Knob Creek. Since we’re digging back in time, the folklore goes something like this. We do know that Knob Creek is the name of an actual creek in Kentucky. The less than credible part begins with this creek running directly through Abraham Lincoln’s family farm, which he himself referred to as “the Knob Creek place.” Some even say that Abe’s father worked as a seasonal hand at a nearby distillery. Where would we be without a little folklore in our lives…
Our beer drinkers that enjoy a good bourbon barrel finish have in part Knob Creek to thank as dated back to the early 90’s, master distiller Booker Noe did a collab with a brewery in Chicago and the world’s first bourbon barrel-aged beer was born! In fact they have released it every year since 1992, having named it Bourbon County Stout from the Goose Island Brewery.
Tasting notes: Knob Creek is a classic bourbon, from the mash bill to the #4 char on the American oak barrels to the caramel and vanilla notes throughout. Perfect for cocktails, sipping, and even baking!
